Research

Faculty and students in The University of Arizona Music Education Department are committed researchers as well as teachers. We recognize the value of research and scholarship for the improvement of our own practices and for the global profession. The faculty, whose expertise includes historical, quantitative, and qualitative research, maintain active research agendas.

Faculty publications can be found in music education research journals including the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, Journal of String Research, and International Journal of Research in Choral Singing.

The Marguerite Vivian Hood Collection

Collection consists of correspondence, photographs, concert programs, newspaper clippings, journal articles, teacher education certification materials, and additional personal materials from the music educator, Marguerite Vivian Hood (1903-1992). Through her long, productive career, Hood contributed to the music education field as a public school teacher and supervisor, state music supervisor, university professor, author, conductor, speaker, clinician, and past-MENC president (1950-52).
